Colorado Ranks in Top 5 Among States in ‘Best Shape’

If Colorado was at a nightclub, New Hampshire might come up to us and drop the line, “If I said you have a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?” But how did we rank so high, really?

Clearly, not every Coloradan gets up every day and feels that they are in the ‘best shape of their lives;” but, according to a recent study, Colorado has a lot to be pleased about. Especially when you consider how easy it is to end up on the wrong side of this list.

How do you feel about the shape that you’re in? I think most people would say that they think they could stand to lose a few pounds and should lay off the sodas, and have a few fewer beers each week. We shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves though, according to the just-released study from RunReviews.com, a site that helps you find the best treadmill, we’re doing really good.

MORE: COLORADO IS ONE OF THE NATION’S ‘DRUNKEST’ STATES

WHAT STATES RANKED LOWEST ON THE LIST:

  • ALABAMA
  • KENTUCKY
  • MISSISSIPPI
  • ARKANSAS
  • WEST VIRGINIA

All of these states are great, but the stats show that they’re not doing at least a couple of things that they should, do to move out of the bottom. Great states to visit, but if you want the shot of a healthier life, Colorado is showing how it’s done.

WHICH STATES RANKED IN THE TOP 5 ON THE LIST?

  1. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
  2. MASSACHUSETTS
  3. COLORADO
  4. CONNECTICUT
  5. NEW HAMPSHIRE

WHAT THREE FACTORS PUT COLORADO IN THE TOP 5?

COLORADO HAS THE LOWEST OBESITY RATE IN AMERICA

Only 24.2% of Coloradans have BMI within the ‘Obesity’ range. Indiana ranked lowest, with 36.8% within the range.

COLORADO HAS THE 2ND LOWEST DIABETES RATE IN AMERICA

Only 7.6 out of every 100,000 Coloradans are dealing with Diabetes, as opposed to Louisiana (last on the list) where 14.1 per 100,000 residents have Diabetes.

COLORADO HAS THE 2ND HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE ‘EXERCISED IN THE LAST MONTH’

The study shows that 89.4% of us in Colorado work out at least once a month. Utah was #1 with 94.!5; Louisiana, once again, was the lowest on this list with only 71%.

WHERE DID COLORADO LOOK ‘BAD’ IN THE STUDY?

WELLNESS CHECKUPS

Colorado ranks in the bottom five for this category of the study, with only 67.8% of us have had a routine yearly checkup within the last year. Rhode Island was #1 with 83.8% of those folks have seen the doctor for their ‘yearly.’

If we were to turn that ‘doctor’s visit’ thing around, we could REALLY strut around.
